This year in math we used a program called Connected Math 2 as our text book. The program is a very different program from the one we used last year. This program is made up of 8 different units and all of the units are in separate books. So far this year we have used 6 of those books. We used Primetime, Bits and Pieces 1 and 2, How Likely Is It, Shapes and Design, and Covering and Surrounding. There are about 5 different sections in each book and they are called investigations. In the beginning of every investigation there are questions that you do with our class to get us ready. Each investigation has also 4 to 5 different sections. For example in investigation 2 in the book How Likely Is It there are 4 different sections in that investigation. In each of those sections there is a point for that specific question. We do at least one of those sections in a day. After we do one of those we go over it as a class. Once we are done with that we get homework from Mrs. Mannon. Usually it is from the homework section in are book. That section is called ACE, or Applications, Connections, and Extensions. We have about 12 problems a night. Also we usually have homework on Friday so our brain doesn’t shutdown from doing nothing we have something to help our brain. When we get back from school on Monday we go over our homework that we did from the last week.

All the things that we work on in class and at home are recorded information in our note books. There are four different sections in are notebook. The first section is called “Class Work”. The there is “Homework”. Then “Assessment” and finally there is the “Reference” section. The Class Work section is a section where we put all the things that we work on in class. So we could keep everything neat and orderly. The homework section is for all the homework that we do. It keeps it separated from all the other work we do. Then the assessment section holds all the reflections, test, and quizzes we take. So that they don’t get mixed up with all are other work. Then finally the reference section holds all are reference sheets that we refer back to. We also have a note book that we keep all are vocabulary terms in it. When we are reading our book, each vocabulary word in the book is highlighted. Once we come across that word he need to write it down in are vocabulary book. Then we need to write the definition of the word. We find the definition in the back of the book. The definition is right in the back so it is really easy to do it getting it. Also all those things helped us just in case if we have an open book test. In our notebooks we also have our math book, assignments book, pencil pouch, and lab sheets. The lab sheets are sheets of papers that are teachers created and they help us to organize a certain point in the chapter or they help us keep our homework organized. Another reason we have different sections in to draw conclusions to help us understand formulas and algorithms.

One thing at the beginning of each unit there are things called “Focus Question”. These questions focus on a lot of things. One thing they do is tell about the major mathematical goals of whole book. This helps us know what type of problems we are going to be facing in this unit. The second thing that they try to get us about what the unit ahead is going to hold and what it’s going to be about. That makes everyone in the class want to open the book and read everything what is ahead in the unit. Also it makes us want to go and just figure out all he problems and have some fun.

My favorite unit that we did this year was Shapes and Designs. The reason I liked this book was because we got to learn about different polygons. Some of those polygons are triangles, squares, rectangles, pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, nonagons, regular polygons, and irregular polygons. Plus I like it because we learned about shaped we use in the world and how we use them. One example is when you are making tiles or putting down flooring you use squares. Also another one is that if you are building a bridge you can use triangles. Another reason I liked this unit is because we got to learn about different angles. Also we learned how to measure things with angles and with protractors. I learned so many things in this unit and all of those things will be helpful in life. Also I think all of that stuff was very interesting. I also found different angles in my life. One angle that I found a lot is 90 degrees. You can find this a lot in rectangles, squares, such as a computer screen, one of our unit books, or another on is a poster board.

This is one of my favorite projects that I did for math and I think it is one of my best projects.
